Hey O!
Truth be told, sometimes I thought I wouldn't make it this far! I started this as a challenge to myself, I wanted to learn to code , and learn how to make art (or at least start too) and see what comes of it. Honestly, I loved the whole process, from coming up with ideas and trying to implement them only to realize I wasn't there yet lol BUT THATS OK! as long as I keep at it Ill eventually arrive at a point where Ill be able to accomplish what I set out to do, which is make the kind of games I want to see in the world, played by others and enjoyed. I believe games should be fun and that the players time is valuable and should feel like its not being wasted.
For the process of making Raining Rot, I chose to make it a platformer because I assumed it would be the easiest to start out with, but I quickly realized gamedev isn't easy lol its a challenge every step of the way as your learning and I definitely banged my head on the wall several times trying to understand concepts that I just wasn't familiar with and learning the hard way that unless you know what you're doing, shortcuts shouldn't be taken. Also rather than trying to copy a tutorial you're better off trying to understand the concept and logic of how things work, because if something breaks you better learn how to find the why and the how.
For the art which honestly was my favorite part (even though I'm still pretty bad). learning that simplicity is your best route most of the time and smaller color palette's make things easier and focus your style more. That was interesting to learn because I always thought more equaled better but a lot of the time, that's not the case. I find myself looking at things other people made now and instead of just giving it a glance I ask myself, "that's awesome, I wonder why they made these choices, and maybe I can try that one day". I find that very fulfilling .
I had an amazing time doing this and will be starting a new project tomorrow for the simplicity jam, I'm already falling behind schedule because I was learning how to upload this project and itch was down or something but everything turned out ok.
Anyway, I might be typing this into the void, but that's ok. If by some odd chance you find this, I hope you're doing well and thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you stay and follow me on this journey, but if you cant that's ok too. I just hope you find what your looking for out there in the world!
Sincerely
Wonder County
See you on the next one!
